I'm currently putting a few small zines/self-published books together as a personal project for the summer. The first one will feature the large council blocks in London.
The council blocks were largely erected in the post-war period and in the decades thereafter as a way to house both displaced and impoverished Londoners. They served as new homes for those and clean, safe spaces when they cleared the remaining slum areas of the city.
While not a style of building exclusively used in the UK, they are of particular interest to me because I come from a place where low-rise buildings are the norm, and “high-rise” was a single, 14-storey government building in the city.
